| Sometimes her eyes change colour. Sometimes her hair does, too. Green, red, violet, blue - whatever colours they wish to be. And yet none of it is real. Like the things she makes you see. Nothing but hallucinations. And yet they seem solid. And yet they seem there. And yet...they are still not real. Her name is Ann Marks. Born into a large, country family, she grew up in the mountains of Virginia, raised on a farm just off Skyline Drive. Blonde-haired, blue-eyed, smaller than anyone else her age. When her growth curve failed to follow the norm, she was diagnosed with a congenital growth hormone deficiency. Never caring to be treated as medical treatments never failed to go over poorly with her body, she is perfectly content with the fact that, beyond the structure of her face, she looks more like a rather effeminate, twelve-year-old boy than anything. A bright girl and a wiz with computers, her knowledge and personality have both compensated greatly for the fact that she never hears the end of her height issue. But that is not all of her body's compensational tactics and her other gifts are far more interesting. They are simple, really, though simpler in theory than they are in practice. One is that of a medium of sorts. She can open portals within the mind, travel through time and space, in a way. She can even travel into the minds of others, if they let her. But the second is the one that she uses the most, the one that she understands to some degree, finds fits her the best. What she does is simply recreating what you see. Hallucinations. Visions. Simple magic tricks. And what she is is simply an Illusionist. |
